Waxing for men and women - glossary & aftercare
Glossary of terms
At Savana, we use both warm wax (strip wax) and hot wax. Hot wax is usually used for the more sensitive areas such as bikini and underarm. There is often confusion over wax terminology, especially with bikini area waxing, so here is a summary of what you can expect from your waxing appointment at Savana:

Half leg - From toes to just above knee.
Bikini - Pubic area up to front knicker line only.
High bikini – Extended bikini.
Playboy - Total pubic area, delicate areas and between buttocks if needed. A strip of about 1 cm wide is left at the front.
Hollywood - Total pubic area and between buttocks. Totally bare.
Full arm - From fingers to shoulder
Half arm - From fingers to just above elbow
Underarm - Armpits only
Back - From waist band to neck
Shoulders - Top of arms to neck
Chest - From bottom of sternum to neck
Stomach - From Waist band to bottom of sternum

Please let us know if you hear of other waxing treatments that you would like explained.
General aftercare
- Take extra care of the waxed area, especially within the first 24 hours. We recommend using our organic aloe vera gel daily for 3-4 days after your treatment to sooth and prevent in-growing hairs.
- Refrain from saunas, steam rooms, sunbathing, sunbed treatments and very hot baths/showers for 48 hours as the waxed area will be sensitive to heat.
- Avoid friction from nylon material or tight clothing.
- Avoid using perfumed lotions, creams, washes, antiperspirants and perfumes on the waxed area for 24 hours.
- Avoid sexual activity for 24 hours after waxing of the pubic area.
What could happen after waxing
In-growing hairs - can be reduced by gentle and regular exfoliation, and daily moisturising. Please wait a least 48 hours after waxing before exfoliating or applying perfumed lotions
- Swelling and redness - this is a common skin reaction to hair removal which will reduce and vanish
- Itching - most common as the hair starts to grow back after waxing the pubic area. Carry wet wipes and soothing/moisturising lotion with you and apply to the area throughout the day to reduce itching
- Bruising - this is unusual but it will reduce and vanish
- Burning - this can happen if your skin is cold or the wax is too hot. In cold weather please arrive with enough time to relax and let your skin regulate its temperature
- Skin removal - this can happen if your skin is dry, but will be reduced by gentle and regular exfoliation, and daily moisturising. Please wait a least 48 hours after waxing before exfoliating or applying perfumed lotions
- Infection - there is always a slight chance of infection after waxing. We recommend that you take particular care to wash your hands before touching the area or applying mild lotions
